The 2004 “Angus and All That Jazz” edition of the National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) promises to be one of the best ever. Membership in the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) is continuing to grow along with the excitement and enthusiasm for Angus cattle across the country. Because of this, we are anticipating excellent numbers for this year’s NJAS, the world’s largest single-breed beef show. Make plans now to be in Kansas City, Mo., July 12-17. The Missouri Junior Angus Association has been working diligently to host this great event.

The NJAS is much more than the world’s largest single-breed beef show – it is the highlight of the year for the NJAA. The spotlight for the week is placed on the junior members as they participate in the cattle competition, the national showmanship contest and the various individual and state contests held throughout the week.

Please note all of the specific information for this show (the NJAS), in this Web site.

New in 2004 - Steers can be entered in both the carcass steer contest and the on-hoof competition. This is logistically possible this year due to the close proximity of the packing facility to the show location. It may not be possible in future years. However, the results for the carcass contest will be announced on Saturday rather than on Friday during the Awards Function. If you want to enter a steer in both the carcass and the on-hoof divisions you must list the steer twice on the entry form and pay two entry fees. For a copy of the formula used to calculate placing in the carcass contest, please contact the Junior Activities Department at the American Angus Association. The carcass steers will be sold using a grid-pricing schedule.

Please note that the applications for registration and transfer of ownership must be recorded in the sole name of the exhibitor and postmarked by May 15, 2004. Bred-and-owned animals must be registered by the entry deadline of June 1, 2004. If you don’t have registration papers on newly purchased animals in your hands two weeks prior to the ownership/transfer deadline for a particular show, please contact the American Angus Association. NO LATE TRANSFERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DEADLINE.

Entries must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service no later than June 1, 2004. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED! The entry fee of $35 per head must accompany the entry form. This entry fee includes the bedding in the barns but not the tie-outs.

If you have any questions, please contact the Junior Activities Department at the Association. For more information about the contests held during the NJAS please see the “contest” section at www.njaa.info.

We look forward to having you in Kansas City for the “Angus and All That Jazz” NJAS.

– James Fisher
